Band Aid Revisited: 25 Years Later

Many of you may remember when Bob Geldof got a group of musicians together on behalf of Africa in 1984 and recorded a song whose proceeds went to famine relief in Ethiopia. (http://www.bobgeldof.info/Charity/bandaid.html)
I don’t know a group of musicians that I can get together, but I have written some new lyrics that are apropos this year.
Check out this link to the original recording, but read along with my lyrics as it plays and see if you agree.

It’s Congresstime

There’s no need to be afraid

At Congresstime, we let in lobbyists and we all get paid

And in our world of plenty some of us smile at little boys

Throw your arms around a senator at Congresstime

But say a prayer

Pray for the ones like you

At Congresstime, it’s hard for YOU, but THEY’RE all having
fun

There’s a world outside your purview

And it’s a world of greed and leers

Where the only money
flowing is to Congress and their peers

And the ringing bells that you hear
there are the clanging chimes of doom

Well tonight thank Congress it’s them instead of you

And there won’t be hope in America this Congresstime

The greatest gift
they’ll give us this year is strife

(Oooh) Where nothing ever grows

But our tax bill, heaven knows

Don’t you know it’s Congresstime at all?

(Here’s to them) raise your glass
for Congress

(Here’s to us) underneath the taxman’s gun

Don’t you know it’s Congresstime at all?

Bleed the world

Bleed the world

Bleed the world

Let them know it’s Congresstime again

Bleed the world

Let them know it’s Congresstime again

Merry freaking Christmas, right?
